About me
Derick Johnson is a cybersecurity graduate student and practitioner specializing in the intersection of AI, large language models, and offensive security. His research focuses on two converging threats: how AI-powered tools are transforming open-source intelligence and reconnaissance, and how LLM-integrated systems introduce new attack surfaces that defenders are only beginning to reckon with.Holding certifications including CEH (Practical) and eJPT, Derick bridges theory and hands-on practice through workshops and seminars delivered to both students and industry professionals. His sessions translate complex AI and security concepts into practical, defense-offense ready takeaways. Over the past two years, he has developed a reputation for clarity and depth whether breaking down how adversaries weaponize public data with LLMs or demonstrating how AI-augmented security tooling can be turned against the teams using it.A contributor to BSides and DEF CON's local chapter, Derick is passionate about privacy, digital footprints, and the ethics of AI-enabled surveillance. He writes regularly on applied security, sharing workflows and lessons from the field to help practitioners understand and defend against the evolving AI threat landscape.
